Together We Are Stronger

Hey, Kids!

Coach Heather suggested the other day that we start a blog where we could easily find coaching related documents and share ideas to help us grow our BeachBody coaching business.

This blog is, as the name suggests, a collective effort. There is no doubt about it: multiple heads are better than one. By helping each other, we help ourselves grow.

If you have any ideas or documents, please send Heather or myself your contributions! Together, we are stronger.

Here's to building our business and to our success!

SparkPeople

Donna is on a roll.  Here is another example of how she is spreading the word to her coachees!

TGIF everyone!

I wanted to share with you something I stumbled on last night surfing the web. Perhaps you have heard of it, I didn't, but it's a website called SparkPeople.  It has EVERYTHING you need regarding weight loss!  Nutrition trackers, goals, articles, advice on exercise, all sorts of stuff! You create a FREE user name and P/W and you get your own "Dashboard".  (see my home page below)  There's a section where you choose a couple goals to work on (something what we thought – small baby steps).  Check it out:

I was thinking about starting a Newsletter!  Just a collection of stuff we as a group could publish on Fridays to take home and read.  I truly believe reading motivational/positive articles helps tremendously.  Even if you're not quite "there" yet to start, keep reading and stay in the loop.  Someday, something will hit you and you'll be there.  I know it took me years to finally get my "voice" to click and start making better choices.  I'm not 100% perfect, and I don't want to be!  (I need a margarita once in a while, too J), but I can't believe how I've changed since May 1st.  I eat 5-6 small meals a day like clock work (sometimes too much ice cream L), I aim to exercise 6 days a week, but if I only get 5 in, well, that's better than none!  I feel I've finally conquered my inner voice.  BUT – it's taken a long time.

So that being said:  I encourage you to subscribe to our blog and even my Beachbody coach's Blog.  It's a great motivator!! (see links below)

And – just for laughs – I have in my office a 5 Pound bag of sugar.  Feel free to stop by and pick it up to remind you what a difference losing 5 Pounds means.  I know losing 5 pounds sometimes it feels like taking a cup of water out of the ocean, but think again!  It's very eye opening!

See you next week!

Questions answered

Again, I just want to take a minute and share some general questions that were asked by new coaches.  Sorry if these posts are not that grand, but why not share stuff we talked about!

Donna created a power point presentation- Beachbody for Dummies.  Again, you need to ask your coach to email it to you.

One question I keep getting asked:  Why IS this all Free?  (WOWY, Threads, etc.).  I tell people because once you get hooked, you’ll want to purchase a Beachbody product.  Is that the correct sales line?

Thanks again.

Donna

That's about right!  Depending on how well you know the person, you might want to soften the 'get you hooked' line. ;-)   But yes.  The reason so much is free is that the company knows that when people start seeing friends in WOWY getting great results with Beachbody programs, they will naturally want to try them.

Plus, it makes it more fun for a Beachbody person to workout with a friend or relative across the country in WOWY- even if that other person is just walking around the block.  It still supports the Beachbody customer (they are supporting each other.)  In this way, even people doing non-BB programs are still helping BB customers get results.  Both friends and the company so better then.  So everybody wins!

Hi Kevin and everyone,

One thing I guess I don’t understand very well:  If all these support tools are free, what are the benefits of becoming a Club Member?  What does $34/month get your?  I’m a member, and I know I get the menu planning.  What else?

Thanks again for your feedback.

One of the key things I always tell my coachee’s about being a club member, If they order BB products they get the 10% off all products, and for most people if they order in bulk it saves them the price of the club membership right away! The other things I let them know about is the meal plan’s and grocery lists that are available. I really like this power point you put together. It’s very informative and looks great!

Thanks,

Derek.

How to talk about Beachbody!

These are older emails where our team shared with ideas.  I just want to memorialize them here.  Take a minute and read the email trail.  Its about how to talk about Beachbody to help you grow your business.

Date: Sun, August 03, 2008 7:42 pm

Ok awesome coaches Barb and Kevin, I have a question for you.  I'm also sending this to Traci, I hope you don't mind, but you are really an inspiration and was hoping you would also give your thoughts and ideas on this.

I know we briefly touched on this on our last conference call, but I wanted to ask again more questions.

I never know how to approach people and "sell" any of this to people not doing BB or never heard of BB?  I heard others say just talk to everyone you meet, the 3 foot rule, if they are in 3 feet of you start talking about BB.  So, that leads to my question.

1, How do you just work any of this into conversations?  I'm talking about becoming a customer and a coach.   It's easy with people you know and occasionally the topic of fitness comes up with people you don't know and you can work it in.  But, how do you just stop the person in line at the grocery store or your hairdresser and say, hey, you should try this workout program, or you should log your workout into WOWY to win?  I feel like its very hard just to bring it up?  So, then I don't know how to turn a normal conversation into a conversation about getting fit.  I also don't want to offend anyone by "hinting" they may be fat and should try a new workout?

Once the topic comes up, I would like my last resort approach to be on the lines, of hey at least workout with me in WOWY for a change to win, then hand them a card.  It may help at least point them my way and the way of BB?  It's just how to initiate the conversation/

2.  My next question, how the heck do you sell the coaching side of it?  I'm talking about people that never heard of BB?  I mean how do you tell someone they should become a coach and basically sell fitness products when they don't use or know the products?  I just don't understand how that even gets started or considered?  I feel like I am missing something?  I mean, there maybe a few (haven't run into any yet) who may just "fit the bill" you will know they will be a good coach and can point them that way.  But, how can you convince a friend (Or stranger) to do this if they don't use BB?  It's hard to sell them on something that will be a good business opportunity, when I am barely covering my own expenses right now.  So, I feel like I can not use me as an example to "strike it rich" at least not yet.  Do I need to get them as a customer first so they use the product, then after a month say, now you should become a coach?  My current customers have all been going for awhile, and you can tell who will be good at it and you can only ask them.  But,  lot of times they don't feel like they know what they are doing yet to give advise to others?  Maybe as they stick around longer.  I understand the - You just need to believe in the products" helps, but again- especially if they have never heard of or know much about it, how do you sell the coaching?  I had one lady say to me, I like P90, but don't think I could coach and sell anything else because "I don't use them"?  I tried to explain the support available, but do see her point?

Ok, I hope I didn't bother anyone with questions.  I'm just wondering how to really make the business side grow and to get more coaches/customers?  So all those experts coaches who have been doing this awhile, can you help us lower on the food chain?  I know each is a different story, just wondering on how to make the first approaches to people?  I'm apparently very bad at marketing.

thanks for the help,
--

Hello All,

In response to your first question: How do you talk to the general public--those around you, at the supermarket, in the bank, on the train, etc--about BB? How do you get them to check out your site? the products?

The Doc gave me this idea. When people ask me what I do, I say, "I'm an online fitness coach." They're like, "really?" I say "Yea, it's home fitness. Videos. I provide free online fitness coaching." I really, really, really do keep it simple and I say, "Oh, check out my site. It's pretty awesome. :)" If they look like they need to lose weight, I don't say, "You're fat, you need Slim in 6." But I do say, "I'm an online fitness and weight loss coach." I don't ever feel like I'm selling anything. I'm so enthusiastic about BB, that I actually can't help myself but to talk about it.

I think the key is to keep it simple, yet enthusiastic. AND YES, hand out your business card! It seems that NO MATTER WHERE I go, I find myself talking to people about my coaching.

In response to your second question: How do you talk to people about becoming a coach who are not familiar with BB? Here, I am Stumped.  I PERSONALLY have only talked to people who I currently coach . I just don't know how to do it otherwise. I'd love to hear ideas.

This is a good conversation to have collectively. Way to go, heather, for initiating it. :)

Mon, Aug 4, 2008 at 1:07 PMHey Everyone!

Here’s some of my ideas;

Here’s a few ways I always bring up the conversation. Like Josh I’m constantly working around people that I need to engage conversations with all day with my current job. A little background on me; I use to teach a motocross school for American Suzuki, that’s were I began to “open” up and talk to people, whether it be friends, or complete strangers and most of the time it was always complete strangers! I struggled at first with being able to initiate a conversation with a person that I had never even talked to before, or knew what there interests were. However when they came to a motocross school it was pretty obvious they had a interest in riding! So I was able to use that as a conversation starter! But then there are those people that I would just meet out on the streets that you stand in line (at the bank, grocery store, etc). EACH situation is different depending on the person. Sometimes you just know when not to talk to somebody! Here is a quick example about a way to bring up a conversation with someone standing in line at the grocery store.

So.. I’m at the grocery store standing in line when this “lady” is standing behind me, we’re both waiting, I see her glancing over towards the racks with the magazines there, that have the national enquirer, people, etc type magazines. I decide to say something to her, because I saw her look over at the national enquirer, (They always have pictures of celebrities on the front cover, that have gained weight!) (So instantly I know she is at least interested in “weight/celebrities”, how did I know that? Because I guarantee you won’t find me at a book store looking at a Blue’s Clues book! Get what I mean???)  Now back to my approach, This particular cover of national enquirer was showing Arnold Schwartzenager.. So I said to the lady: “Geez, that’s crazy how he looks now compared to a few years back!”, and of course now she replys “Oh your not kidding, it’s amazing how he looks since the terminator days!”. (Now I’m learning things about her, that she obviously knows that Arnold was huge before, and always in shape. So now I assume she’s relatively interested in “fitness” to some degree.) So I reply back: “I remember hearing awhile back that even know he has gotten much older, but he still works out a lot!”, So now she replys “ You know what, I think I heard that on the news sometime ago.”(Now we are on a more friendly conversation basis as we wait in line, and she glanced down at my cart just peering at what I had in there) So I said “Yeah if you can’t tell I’m kind of watching the way I eat because I’m on this “Beach Body Fitness program” (Now she responded back the way I thought she would) She said “Oh, that’s cool I wish I could get myself on a decent plan, but I always start them and don’t finish” (BINGO! Just what I wanted to hear!! That’s when you step in and let her know exactly what you do, and that you are a free online fitness coach for Beach Body products! Now is when you should hand them your card and say to just check it out sometime if you get a chance!

Like I said, every situation goes different, but you need to find your way to read a person without even saying a word, it’s amazing how much you can tell about some one in the way they carry themselves. #1 rule don’t be scared to approach someone! Everyone will respond differently, some will be easy to have a conversation with, and some will not want to talk to you. The easiest way to start a conversation with someone, anywhere, anyone… Just look at them, and when they look back say “How are you doing!” (and smile) Instead of doing what most people do, and make it a awkward situation and turn away (pretending they were not just staring at you) You will find most people will say, “Good, thanks!” that’s when I would then use small fillers to work my way into the conversation.. Such as.. “Man, it’s been humid out all week long, it’s just terrible outside”

Here’s another example, I always have seen this one lady that is a vendor here at work. Never talked to her before, but seen here come and go. The next few times I saw her come to our office she seemed like she had lost a few pounds. So one day when she was walking out of the building I was walking up the walk way, and told her, “I couldn’t help but notice, but dang have you lost some weight?” (now, she’s engaged in the conversation and probably is feeling pretty good about herself, knowing that her hard work is paying off.) So of course she tells me what she’s been doing to lose her weight etc. So I go on to tell her about the Beach Body programs that are available, and that’s when you could hand off a card and tell her to go check out your site sometime!

Oh yeah, and always tell them if they decide to order products that it helps you maintain your coaching status if they order through your site!

Well… I hope my response helps out some.

Thanks,

Derek.

Thanks, everyone, for the tips.  I feel so overwhelmed right now – trying to get my BB website updated, create a blog, print business cards.

One thing I know works well are those buttons BB sent with their coaching package.  I wear the Press Play all the time and it opens up conversations.  I’m gong to order some shirts, as well (decide – commit –succeed).

Any other tips/tricks would be great.  Once I figure out my blog, I’ll have to get everyone’s feedback J

Heather-

Great questions, and I gotta say that I LOVE that you are thinking about how to grow your business and putting in effort.  It is not a get rich quick thing, but for people who plug away, it builds and builds.  And it is only just beginning!

I think Derek answered this one beautifully.  I've talked to servers and people in the past who are outgoing and enthusiastic that "I have an online fitness coaching business and I'm always looking for good people to partner with.  Here's my card, why don't you check it out.  Email me if i's something you want to learn more about."

I think keeping the part of the conversation short and sweet is important.  I've heard stories of well intentioned people who talk themselves into and out of a customer in the same conversation by getting so excited that they get "diarrhea of the mouth!"  Just tell them you work with this great company helping people lose weight and get in shape and win money at the same time.  Then point them to your new coaches web page.  BTW, I changed the text and added my before and afters to my new bb webpage If any of you like my text, feel free to use it.

I agree with Barbie that it is a great idea to keep cards with you.  You never know where they will end up.  Even if someone doesn't think it is right for them, they may see a friend the next day and pass it on to the friend.

I have to run.  I'd like to write more tonight if I can!

Great idea for the discussion,  Heather!  Everybody please feel free to chime in.  the more ideas, the better!

I am loving everyone's input on how to talk to people about BB. I want to quote our man Derek, who hit the nail on the head. Derek wrote:

So I said “Yeah if you can’t tell I’m kind of watching the way I eat because I’m on this “Beach Body Fitness program” (Now she responded back the way I thought she would) She said “Oh, that’s cool I wish I could get myself on a decent plan, but I always start them and don’t finish” (BINGO! Just what I wanted to hear!! That’s when you step in and let her know exactly what you do, and that you are a free online fitness coach for Beach Body products! Now is when you should hand them your card and say to just check it out sometime if you get a chance!

Derek is so right--if you just mention fitness, chances are the person is going to say some variation of this: "I need to get myself on a fitness program" or "I used to work out..." or "I could use some coaching." Yes, Yes, Yes, THAT is your entryway to INTRODUCING folks to beach body, not to talking their ear off and pushing them away from what you are doing (as the FITDOC stated).

Guys, in the past week, I have found myself talking about my GETFITWITHBARBIE BLOG to 1. the financial rep at my car dealership 2. the woman who helped me open up my account at the bank and 3. a phone rep for the motivational guru, Zig Ziglar. Out of the three in the past week, the girl at the bank signed up for me to coach her and started Slim in 6.

The key: Be willing to put yourself out there. If it's not in your nature to "just talk to people," then you better start nurturing that ability. IT IS A SKILL you can DEVELOP. Trust this teacher, will ya?

Josh, we're waiting for your FINANCIAL SERVICES perspective. ;) Let's keep sharing!

Throwing my two cents into the ring!
J

I’ve been watching all the awesome ideas being shared as they’ve popped into my email box, but have not had the time to sit down and formulate a well thought out reply, myself.  Well, here I sit on a plane to Philly, so now is as good a time as any! J (I’ll have to send it after I land and hook in at the hotel)

This brings up a VERY good line of thought. Milan talks about having your “elevator story” – for those quick moments where you connect with someone in line at the store or bank, or wherever. For me quite honestly, this has NEVER led to someone going to my website and checking it out.  I have been places where friendly people have handed me their cards in a friendly conversation that suddenly turned salesy (in a gentle way, but salesy nonetheless) and I personally have NEVER gone to their website. Instead, I’ve thrown that card away. Mary Kay, Shak Lee (sp? Remember I’m on a plane and cant access the internet to spell that company correctly :o)~) no matter how nice the person is – I’ve just never gone there. I don’t like to feel sold. I always think “If I’m going to buy Mary Kay, I’ll buy it from my neighbor”.  No matter how you sugar coat it, when you hand a stranger a business card – they see you as a salesperson.  And the majority of them aren’t REALLY looking to buy something from an online coach while they are thinking about putting their pay check in the bank, etc.  I have heard of TBB coaches who drop four or five business cards on the floor, or on top of a cereal box, or coffee can when they go into the grocery store – I have yet to hear of one who have heard from someone who said “hey – I found this card in the store….” Its worth a try – cards are cheap – but I’d guess you’d have to drop quite a few cards before you got any return on that “investment”.

I don’t care how good your “pitch” is, people don’t trust people instinctively. It’s the day and age. Now before people start throwing rotten tomatoes at the screen and calling Kevin saying “Hey – whats up with Eeyore Traci? I thought she was passionate about this????” J Hear what DOES work for me. Let me tell you how I became a coach. Carl Daikeler is a personal friend of mine. I trust Carl. I believe him when he says something, and I’d be willing to go out on a limb if he asked me to. He called me in to his office in January 2006  and told me with excitement all about this idea. I listened with enthusiasm, already a fan of the company and its products, and with running Tony Horton fitness camps around the company; I was sold, hook line and sinker. I told him “This will be AMAZING Carl! I know people will grab hold of it. I personally wont do it because its not me; I’m not a sales person, I know nothing about that type of business and I don’t want to do something that makes me feel uncomfortable or feel insincere to those I’m coaching…blah blah blah….”  He listened to my reasons, and then hired me to be the host of the site for 2006, where they trained me to basically do all the things we do as coaches, except I was the only one. WAAAY too many customers to handle and I fell way behind trying to single handedly take care of every customer the company brought in. I had no idea that was a thumbnail sketch of what it was to be a coach.  I did it for dollars an hour, and alone, except for my bosses in the office. A team of one. I was drowning in wanting to help these people but having nowhere near the time to get back to them all!

I was called in again in the month of August or September 06 to hear about the now maturely formulated and nearly ready to launch Million Dollar Body, now Team Beachbody, Coaching opportunity from then President Chris Simonian.  It was awesome. I loved it. I KNEW it would be way better than just one person doing it. I still said no.  Chris called later that week to follow up. I said no thanks, gracefully. Carl called me into his office and I said “Carl, it sounds great, but I don’t see how I can help someone if they think I’m selling them something”. He called me the next day and said “Traci, as your friend I’m asking you to give me one year. I think you are a natural for this. It might not feel uncomfortable at first, but you don’t have to change who you are to step into this role. Give me a year and if at the end of one year you hate it, you can come back on staff – I’ll have a job for you.”  I agreed. Not because I felt suddenly like it was a fit, but because I trust my friend and knowing he has my best interest at heart; I’ll try something solely because my friend asked me to. Chris had convincing arguments as to WHY I should, and how it was fail proof, and he was enthusiastic, and he told me all the ways it would bless my family, but in the end, it was my friendship with Carl that made me say yes.

THAT is coach recruiting. Relationship.  Many coaches on my team started out doing it only because they trusted me as their friend.  Some signed up as a needle in the haystack recruit, but the ones who came on as my friends are the ones who have DONE something with it.  I have a PS coach who just signed up a PS coach. She said to me LAST NIGHT “I wouldn’t have done this at all, even as good as it sounds, if Ricky hadn’t told me “Tina, you gotta get in on this.””  You know a lot of people. Whether you realize it or not. Your friends in your hometown, your cousins, aunts, uncles, sisters, brothers, in laws, neighbors, friends from church, college room mates, former co workers, present co workers, friends from the gym, your old trainer, your house sitter, babysitter, house cleaner…. People who will do something they ordinarily wouldn’t have done solely because YOU ASK THEM TO.  THOSE are the people you can have the best success with. Relationships take time to build, so why not start with those you have already existing relationships with?

Yes, stand in the same checkers line at the market, the same bank tellers line at the bank, the same table at the restaurant you frequent. Develop relationship with those people to where you can share with them.  As you develop new relationships while cultivating the old, you are building your business continually. New friends become old friends; then share it; when they trust you.  Then make more new friends. The whole point of what we do is to get into the lives of people and that takes time, just like changing your body takes time.  I like to say “We’re changing the trends of obesity – ONE relationship at a time.” Its not as flashy as signing up tons of people in the grocery store line,  but it far more long term. J And people will see that we really aren’t after their money but truly out for their well being.

Find your “people” by looking at those you already know and love, invite them to hear it and have some coffee or green tea J with you, and then say, in your excited YOU voice that your friend will recognize “Michael, Suzie, Mom, Sister….this is an amazing opportunity – lets do it together.  Lets give it a year – give it all we got, and then reevaluate at the end of the year. But I think THIS is what we were made to do!!”  And then have them do the very same thing.

I hope that helps and inspires you to think of your list of established relationships that you’ll bring in. After all, who DOESN’T want to do business with the very people we’ve chosen to do LIFE with?!?!? J

THANK YOU for this, Traci. It certainly adds another, more "human" perspective.

Can I share just one more anecdote and I'll be done adding in my pennies?

As I was reading Traci's email, I thought of my ex-husband, now friend, who signed up as a "phantom coach" to help me out when I wanted to become Emerald. The other day I called him and found myself telling him, "Khai, I really want you to get on this. You and I really struggled financially when we were kids and when we were together. The 'coaching thing' is really happening for me. It's going to EXPLODE, mark my words, It's going to explode and I want you to be able to share in that. It would be really sad if you didn't." Well, wouldn't you know it, after HOW MANY MONTHS, the man is finally on this email list, X'ing it, ready to make it  happen! Truly, now that I really think about it, my getting my ex-husband for God's sake (!) and my closest friends who are into fitness to get "on the coaching wagon" is an act of love and friendship, NOT OF BUSINESS.

Wow. So, thank you, Traci for the great reminder.

Time to bring it for me...

If you were getting started as a coach today what should you concentrate on?

Find out your why. What drives you to do the daily tasks? Is it financial such as “to get out of debt?” Maybe it’s to afford a vacation, a new car, health insurance, or maybe that nice weekend in Vegas? Then:

1) Sign yourself up as a coach
2) Get the showcase pack (for lending purposes as a library to help sell your products.)
3) Get on Home Direct
4) Join the club

Spend one hour per day on your business. 30 minutes on getting sales and 30 minutes on helping your coaches.

Every month concentrate on

1) Getting 4 Customer sales
2) 2 New Coaches

People see the commercials and will buy the stuff whether you’re involved or not. Why not buy them from you?

Customers are key. Focus on getting one sale per week/ 4 sales per month. Start this today and start connecting people to products they can identify with. Which product for which person dependant on goals. Remember that supplements and shakes are accelerators. If you just work out you will get results. However if you take the supps and meal replacements shakes then that will accelerate the process.

Build your foundation through retail. If you get two of the above a month it will grow your business. Doug Couch told me that the mistake he made was only focusing on getting coaches and not telling them to target the retail side initially. So when those coaches did not see any money coming in they quit.

After building your business through retail then build your coach organization with a goal of signing two coaches monthly.

Have a clear focus and plan and keep striving at it. Some months you will hit your target, others you won’t but keep at it.

Some ideas suggested at the meeting:

Advertise the $1000 weekly WOWY contest in places like Facebook, Myspace. Send out emails to everyone the next day saying that “so and so won the $1000 for that day. They don’t know that you don’t know them. (Carl’s idea)

Aim the programme at personal trainers as a source for them to use for people who cannot afford to continue using them as a trainer. It will also give them a ‘cheaper” programme to offer clients. Stick them on the programme, weigh them, measure them, and take the pic, every 30 days. (You know that one however with the economy as it is less and less people are using personal trainers as money is tight. That could be something a personal trainer could utilize.)

Pete Pena has home business parties where the goal is to sign up 8 coaches. That way if they do you’re already a diamond at one party. Both Pete and Doug Couch have an office where they hold these parties 3 times + week. That way if their coaches want to bring potential coaches to see the business idea, they have it all set up. BTW Doug’s just taken possession of a brand new Jaguar!!!!!! Still, he’s a nice guy so good luck to him even if he gives the impression that he has no clue what’s actually going on! ☺

Remember this isn’t sales. You are not selling anything. You are connecting people to products that they so desperately need and will realize, want. It’s about sharing and connecting, not selling anything.

Times are tough for many people. Gym memberships cost money as does the gas used to get there. If you go there with no real fitness direction you’ll watch what the others are doing and try to replicate what they do. Chances are they’re doing it badly so you’ll follow suit.
The economy may force us to cut back on things that aren’t necessary such as cable TV, eating out, less driving including that trip to the gym. Maybe it’s time to cut back on the more meaningless things and start to invest in your health.

If the average gym membership costs $15-$30 per month that’s $180- $360 per year that most people will go to maybe 20 times if you’re lucky. The first 10 times maybe in the first two months as you’re motivated to change for the better and then boredom sets in and you stop going. That’s $9- $18 per visit? Personally I would rather jog round the block and save that money. At least this way your gym is at your house, the training programme is set up and proven to work. Just pop the DVD in and do what they do.
How many gym clubs provide the proven work out routine, the accountability, the nutritional advice, the online community and tell you what and when to eat?

Why BeachBody Isn't a Pyramid Scheme

Go here to view this detailed explanation of why BB is not a pyramid scheme:

http://changeyourbody.wordpress.com/2008/09/03/why-team-beachbody-isnt-a-pyramid-scheme/

I received a brilliant email yesterday from my top coach in Colorado, Mike Bent, and I absolutely have to share it with every one who thinks that BB is a pyramid scheme:

“My fiance and I were having a discussion the other day over a remark that one of her friends made. That remark went something like this “oh, that is just one of those pyramid schemes”.

One of our problems is dealing with the negativity surrounding the reputation of the phrases “pyramid scheme”, “network marketing”. “multi-level marketing (MLM)” or “direct selling business”.

First of all, the grand daddy of them all, Amway, went under very serious, expensive and prolonged investigation into this sort of activity back in the early 70’s. The results proved that Amway was not a “pyramid scheme” (which is illegal) and paved the way for the whole multi-level marketing industry that has boomed over the past 35 years.

In Quixtar’s (the current name used for the Amway distributor business) Business Rules and Regulations it states:

“A pyramid is a scheme in which an individual pays for the right to recruit additional persons into the scheme who, in turn, receive the same right to receive profits from recruiting others.

Three common elements of a pyramid scheme have been identified as: (1) a large, required initial investment or purchase of inventory: (2) direct payment for recruiting additional persons into the scheme; (3) heavy emphasis on recruiting additional persons, with little or no emphasis on selling products to consumers.”

Beachbody certainly has none of the above components of a pyramid scheme. Anyone who refers to Beachbody as a pyramid scheme is talking out of ignorance combined with obvious negative past experiences with MLMs in general or, perhaps, an illegal pyramid scheme. In fact, I was duped into one such scheme because the Chief Economic Advisor of the Reagan administration, Art Laffer of the infamous “Laffer Curve”, was on the Board of Directors of this company. That company did have several of the components mentioned above.

In fact, Beachbody is squeaky clean on this one as: (1) Beachbody has no required inventory, period; (2) there is no direct payment for recruiting in Beachbody, period; (3) Beachbody is all about products to consumers. In fact, on the last point, Beachbody is currently paying $90 million this year for new customers that it passes on to Emeralds and above. I am not aware of any other MLM that does this.

Another interesting fact is that Beachbody was not created to be an MLM. It was already a very successful company before adding a network marketing component. I am not aware of any other MLM company that has ever had such history before becoming a MLM. Are you?

There is no question that adding a coaching program was in the best interest of Beachbody’s customers. If you were the executive of Beachbody would you have created a coaching program with all the overhead of adding a coaching division within the company (the salaries of the coaches, office space, additional phone lines, computers, etc) where the employees true incentive was to keep his job. Or would you opt for the brilliance of the network of independent coaches where:

1. There is no additional employees with additional salaries
2. The only way a coach can be successful is to be a product of the system
3. Being a product of the system he/she is a few steps ahead of the customers and any new coaches that he/she sponsors
4. There is a non-salaried advocate of the company to create new customer activity and to advise existing customers of different or additional products to improve their fitness goals
5. Because, in essence, coaches get paid to be fit through the system of sharing, existing coaches will help the whole system grow. As the coaching network grows Beachbody will have a tremendous impact for turning around the greatest epidemics in the history of the US - Type 2 Diabetes because of a grossly overweight society.

Our opportunity is unprecedented. There has never been a greater need for a fitness and health system that works. And I have never been exposed to a fitness and health company that works as well as Beachbody. Most people will not get involved because it is a network marketing (MLM) company and/or opportunity. I believe the reasons they will get involved will be one of these:

1. To personally improve their physical appearance
2. To look and feel healthier
3. They were convinced that Beachbody has superior products to achieve their weight and fitness goals
4. Because a medical advisor or doctor told them that they must loose weight (this will be big soon with the coming Type 2 Diabetes product)
5. That they needed a motivation or reason to be fit other than number 4 above (I was in this category)
6. They want to be part of society’s weight solution instead part of the problem
7. They want an at home business that makes sense
8. They like the idea of getting paid to be fit

It is my opinion that after someone is involved and really understands this company’s vision, that they will stay in this program for most of the above reasons.

The company desperately needs additional active coaches to succeed in its mission. In my opinion, that is why they are having current recruiting contests and, most importantly, that is why they are going to get new coaches the same way they know how to get new customers - infomercials.”

I am anxious for your success!
Mike

Info for New Coaches--Resources

If you go to the Team Bionics site, there's a ton of information for new coaches. Play around in it. In particular, in the Training section there is a video presentation by Blake Warrington on Overcoming Objections. It's all about the different types of objections people have to the coaching opportunity and how to deal with them. I found it very useful!

At some point in the near future, Team Bionics will move to a new site Team Fit Revolution. The site was supposed to be up and running by now, but they're behind, evidently. There is a link to the old site from there.

Coaching Strategies--Minutes from October 6, 2008 Call

Coaches Conference Call
Monday, October 6th, 8:00pm ET

Attendees:

Barbie
Josh
Donna
Heather
Randy
Melisa

The purpose of this meeting was for coaches to share ideas and strategies that they are trying out.

Donna:
o Supermarket Flyer – trying to bundle my “women’s ice hockey” theme with Beachbody. Will hang these flyers in local supermarkets, store 24’s, pizza shops, hockey rinks (where ever they’ll let me).

o PPT slide show of my routine! I created this silly little thing to bring humor into creating a workout routine. It so important to be consistent, so my reasoning was if I had my own little personalized space with things that got me pumped (pictures of myself huffing and puffing playing hockey, size 6/8 business suits, bikini’s, and my favorite: BRING IT and Decide – Commit – Succeed. I also added my hockey team’s record for more inspiration (hoping to go undefeated this year).

o Weight Loss Group. I have started a “weight loss group” at my work. It was easy because we used to have Weight Watcher’s at Work program here. Once they stopped doing it (no one wanted the responsibility of coordinating with Weight Watchers), I thought, why not continue meeting weekly, but just to share weight loss/fitness goals. I used all the people who had belong to WW, so that was my “excuse” for including them – not that I was insinuating they “needed to drop weight”. Turns out, this has mushroomed from 12 people to 35! I keep talking it up with everyone. Wearing my Beachbody Pin on my work badge also get’s people asking.

• Melisa
o Talked about not having luck talking about the program outside of her circles.
o The threads weren’t attracting many people.
o Perhaps fliers would work

Barbie Thoughts: The threads won’t work for everyone. But, patience is key and the willingness to try different things. When keeping a thread, show up daily, even if it feels that you’re sometimes talking to yourself.

• Barbie’s thought was when “selling” BB, stay as real as you are, be yourself.

Barbie thought: People want to know that they are dealing with real people, not with commercial print. Let your personality come across in all you do. “I’ve lost 24 lbs with Slim in 6. I can help you get there” versus, “Get the Body You’ve always dreamed of!” only.

OTHER IDEAS:

• Ideas for targeting potential coaches:
o Single moms thread idea
o Personal Trainers—talk to personal trainers. This has worked for Josh.
o Weight Loss/Health Center people

• Could be partner with Weight Watchers or Jenny Craig. If they will allow us, go for it. TOPS (Taking Off Pounds Successfully) someone mentioned this organization.

• Pairing up with other coaches is a great strategy. Bouncing ideas off each other and sharing what works – don’t recreate the wheel!

• Talked about getting a real website address versus blogspot.com (godaddy.com, pretend box website?)

i-Google, Do You?

I want to share a really cool thing I jsut found called a "Google Gadget." It is a widget that anyone make on any topic. I made one (surprise, surprise) on fitness tips. It is really easy to change up, so subscribers can get a new tip on their homepage every day (or week, or whatever.) You can invite your customers, coachees, friends, enemies... anyone to use igoogle as their homepage and add your gadget. Even better- you can add links to your Beachbody coaching page, website, or blog. It is a great way to add value to your coaching with a daily reminder about fitness AND a subtle reminder about the great coahing opportunity!

Below is the email I sent to my coachees:

(friendly neighborhood) Fit Doc here.

Healthy Homepages

I just made a cool new widget I want to share with you! It gives you quick fitness tips and I'm calling it (very cleverly) The Fit Tip from The Fit Doc. Technically, it is a "google gadget." It works with igoogle, a personalized homepage from google that is pretty cool. Igoogle allows you to pick and choose the content of your page with these gadgets. You can get news, weather, jokes, and even fitness stuff like weight trackers and calorie counters.

Make sitting at your computer something that improves your health, not hurts it! Add igoogle and The Fit Tip to your homepage for a dose of The Fit Doc every time you go online!

( I wish I could say "your daily dose." While I'll try to give you a new tip each day, in reality I am far too irresponsible to do that. Let's just say your "periodic dose" of The Fit Doc!)

From google:
After you've added this gadget to your page, you can personalize further by adding other gadgets you link, including email, news, sports, weather, and thousands of others. You can get back to your iGoogle page by going to http://www.google.com and clicking the "iGoogle" link in the upper right-hand corner. You can always return to the classic Google homepage by clicking the "Classic Home" link.

So follow the link, set up your healthy homepage, add The Fit Tip, then get out there and push play!!
